Challenge

In June 2021, waste management specialists Outlook Australia approached Resource Hub to support their organisation with the handover and implementation of Livingstone Shire Council waste transfer stations and resale shops, to be operational for 1 July 2021. With the impact of COVID-19 lockdowns, the team at Outlook had limited ability to travel to Queensland to undertake the necessary review, planning and handover within the timeframe.

What we did

We travelled to the Livingstone Shire Council and conducted a detailed business process and site operations overview. Here’s a brief overview of how we proceeded with the job:

We documented facility layout and operations, including:

  • Staffing
  • Signage
  • Infrastructure
  • Grounds maintenance
  • Acceptance criteria
  • Equipment
  • On-site protocols

We produced a comprehensive report with a full set of findings, recommendations, and imagery by:

  • Talking to staff and council representatives
  • Looking at existing transactional software systems and processes, customer experience, waste streams, regulatory risks, and key stakeholders relationships

We assessed risks and identified opportunities for improvement for each site.

Outcomes

  • Clear understanding of facilities’ business process
  • Assessment of site layout & risk assessment
  • Insights into key stakeholder relationships management
  • Assessment of site operations
  • Improvement recommendations

Conclusion

Outlook Australia’s goal was to gain an overview of the current state of operations at the six Livingstone Shire Council sites. Through the services provided, Outlook Australia gained access to a set of complete and relevant information on the facilities’ profile, including video walkthroughs, site plans, and photographs. By gaining an understanding of the current operations, key stakeholder relationships, and expectations before getting to the site, and Outlook Australia could commence recruitment and ultimately hit the ground running once the handover took place – even with the team still in Victoria.
